Don't Call It A Comeback Wu Tang to release New Album This Year.

Wu Tang Clan's RZA & SRC Records CEO Steve Rifkind recently announced that the group's highly anticipated album, 8 Diagrams, will hit stores this summer.

As previously reported, the New York rap collective signed with Rifkind's SRC Records this past December. Wu-Tang, who came in to prominence in the early 90's via Rifkind's now-defunct Loud Records, have not released a group album since 2001's Iron Flag.

During their six-year hiatus, all nine members of the group have released solo albums. The group's most eccentric member, ODB (born Russell Tyrone Jones), died in 2004 from an accidental overdose while recording his third solo project. "This is the perfect time for us to come back, the stars are aligned," explained RZA via a statement. "It's like when we first started with Steve. We put out real hip-hop at a time when it was turning into pop or R&B. We brought the focus back to the music in its rawest form, without studio polish or radio hooks."

According to RZA, the album will feature a performance of ODB "in his rawest form" and a tribute song dedicated to the fallen rapper titled "Life Changes".

"The energy is just like it was, and it's needed in our industry same as back then," added Rifkind. "Over the last few years, the group has developed a whole new fan base of 20-year-olds and even younger who've never even seen them play."

"People want something that gives them an adrenaline rush," emphasized RZA. "We're here to supply that fix. How could hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever? We're here to revive the spirit and the economics and bring in a wave of energy that has lately dissipated."

A release date for 8 Diagrams has yet to be determined.

NINE INCH NAILS give title to new album

NINE INCH NAILS give title to new album

Nine Inch Nails has set "Year Zero" as the title of its new album, which is due out in April and follows up 2005's "With Teeth". "It could be about the end of the world," the band's mastermind Trent Reznor wrote on the official NIN fan club web site The Spiral.

In a recent interview with England's Kerrang! magazine, Reznor described the upcoming album's as "a collage of sound type of thing, not heavy in a metal guitar kind of way." He added, "With this record I feel a lot less concerned about what people think about it — especially the dying record industry. I couldn't care less about that right now." Reznor also revealed that the new effort is a concept album and "part of a bigger picture of a number of things I'm working on. Essentially I wrote the soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist."

Reznor said that most of the album was recorded "in hotel rooms around the world on laptops," with very few musicians beside himself and "maybe some surprise vocalists that pop up here and there."

When asked why the new record took less than two years to arrive when the last one took six, Reznor said, "I'm probably as surprised as some fans are (laughs). But really it's just a matter of discipline. When I was on the last tour, to keep myself busy I was just really hunkered down and was working on music the whole time, so this kept me in a creative mode and when I finished the tour I felt like I wasn't tired and wanted to keep at it."

Nine Inch Nails will release a DVD called "Beside You In Time" on February 27. The disc documents the band's tour in support of "With Teeth".

Kanye Confirms TV Series With HBO, Clarifies Plot

Kanye West has confirmed that he is working with Borat director Larry Charles and producer Rick Rubin to produce an untitled television series for HBO.

West clarified the television show's subject matter and denied that is was reality series.

“I wouldn’t do something as cliché as a reality show,” West said in a statement. “At least give me the credit for being more creative than that.”

West said that he has been developing the pilot for the past two years with Charles and Rubin, who co-founded Def Jam with Russell Simmons in 1984.

“It’s a situational half-hour comedy," West said. "It’s fictional, and loosely based on my life."

Charles has served as an executive producer for hit HBO shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage, while Rubin is well known for his pioneering work with artists like Run-DMC, The Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, The Geto Boys, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Slayer and others.

At last year's Prime Time Emmy Awards, HBO earned the most Emmy Awards out of any television network with 26, and West hopes to achieve similar success with his television series.

"Maybe this will give me the opportunity to spazz out at the Emmys one day,” West quipped.
